The DOJ just asked a federal appeals court to throw out the convictions of 12 Proud Boys and Oath Keepers members who were found guilty of crimes connected to the January 6th attack on the Capitol.
These weren’t small-time trespassers. These were leaders of organized far-right militia groups convicted of serious charges after lengthy trials. Trump’s Day 1 pardons wiped out most Jan. 6 cases. This move is about cleaning up the ones that survived.
The Justice Department is now doing what a mob couldn’t erasing accountability for an attack on American democracy, one conviction at a time.
