Today I learned about an odd game called “The Wall”, that Eric Blair (who would in future years become George Orwell) played and at which he excelled while at Eton. Professor Shelden calls it “the most pointless game ever devised”. It is essentially rugby played along a rough brick wall, and is very physically fraught because in addition to smashing into other players you risk smashing into the wall. Simon Young this one’s for you!
