Trump posted on Truth Social is demanding Congress give him a short-term extension of FISA Section 702, a surveillance authority that allows the government to monitor foreign targets overseas without a warrant. The problem is that Americans get swept up in that surveillance. Their communications can be collected, searched, and reviewed even though they were never the target and never obtained a warrant. No matter who is president, Americans should not lose their Fourth Amendment protections. If the government wants to monitor an American, it should have to go to a judge, show probable cause, and get a warrant.
