Trump posted on Truth Social demanding Senate leaders to eliminate the filibuster so Republicans can override Democratic opposition amid a government shutdown that has stretched into its 30th day. The filibuster requires 60 votes in the 100-member Senate to advance most legislation. Currently, Republicans control the Senate with a 53–47 majority and hold a narrow 219–213 edge in the House.
