Trump is still upset about losing the 2020 election and now his administration is hitting back against one of his biggest critics. Smartmatic says it’s nothing more than political payback.
Smartmatic, the voting technology company locked in a defamation lawsuit against Fox News and Trump allies, filed court papers today claiming a federal indictment against them is a deliberate act of retaliation. The London-based company didn’t mince words, calling it part of Trump’s “campaign of retribution against his perceived enemies chief among them those who undermine his mantra that the 2020 election was rigged.”
The charges, brought in October through the Southern District of Florida, accuse three former Smartmatic executives of money laundering and bribery tied to a foreign conspiracy to secure government contracts in the Philippines. Smartmatic is now asking the judge to throw them out entirely.
