Trump is holding a Cabinet meeting and talking about how much the January 6 insurrectionists suffered after their attack on the U.S. Capitol. It’s odd because he’s speaking as though he had no role in what happened. He claimed many of them died by suicide and suggested what they did was essentially innocent.
The entire speech comes across as bizarre. Trump encouraged efforts to overturn the 2020 election, and many of the people who took part in January 6 have since faced criminal convictions, lost their jobs, been disowned by family members, and experienced other serious consequences. Some may very well feel ashamed or embarrassed by what happened, as any reasonable person would after participating in an attack on the Capitol.
Is he asking Americans to feel sorry for the people who attacked our own country? It’s a very strange speech, and it’s hard to understand what point he’s trying to make.
