Today, House Republicans, led by Rep. Mike Simpson of Idaho, advanced a proposal to rename the Kennedy Center’s Opera House in Washington, D.C. after First Lady Melania Trump. The amendment was approved in a 33–25 vote by the House Appropriations Committee and added to the fiscal year 2026 Interior funding legislation.
