Today, 60+ veterans and military family members walked into the Cannon House Office Building rotunda, stood in formation, held red tulips honoring Iranians killed by U.S. bombs, and conducted a flag-folding ceremony for American troops already dead in this war. Then Capitol Police zip-tied them and hauled them out one by one.
The action was organized by About Face, Veterans For Peace, Common Defense, Center on Conscience and War, Military Families Speak Out, and others. These weren’t random protesters. These were people who served. People with family members deployed to the Middle East right now. People who know what war actually costs.
They demanded Speaker Mike Johnson come accept the folded flag and pledge to stop funding this war. Johnson didn’t show.
Veterans are getting arrested in the Capitol for begging Congress to stop a war. The Speaker won’t walk down the hall to take a folded flag from the people who carried it. This is where we are.
