This is ridiculous! In a setback for voters, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit has affirmed parts of a lower court’s ruling involving President Trump’s executive order on mail voting. The decision allows key portions of the order to remain in place for now, including directives that:
– Direct the Department of Homeland Security to work toward creating a federal citizenship registry using state voter data and other federal records.
– Allow the U.S. Postal Service to move forward with plans that could withhold mail ballots from states that refuse to share voter registration information needed to implement the order.
The appeals court did not rule that these policies are lawful on the merits. Instead, it held that the lawsuit challenging them was premature, saying the agencies have not yet taken final actions implementing those provisions.
