The Trump administration may have agreed to scrap the proposed $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund, but there’s a major loophole. The order rescinds the fund for now, but it may not permanently amend or terminate the underlying settlement that created it. That means a future attorney general could potentially recreate the fund. The fix is simple formally amend or void the settlement itself (with all required parties’ consent) or have Congress prohibit the fund through legislation. Until then, the door remains open.
