The Trump administration announced that it is moving forward with plans to eliminate hundreds of federal regulations governing Head Start, a 61-year-old program that provides early education and support to some of the nation’s lowest-income children. The proposal would strip away many long-standing standards covering math and literacy instruction, class sizes, health screenings, home visits, and other core services. It would even eliminate the requirement that children brush their teeth after meals. The Trump administration’s overall goal with these changes is to completely gut the program.
