The Supreme Court just struck down Louisiana’s congressional map in a 6–3 ruling, tossing a second majority-Black district as an unconstitutional racial gerrymander. Justice Samuel Alito wrote the opinion, which significantly narrows how courts can apply the Voting Rights Act continuing the Court’s decade-long project of dismantling one of America’s most important civil rights laws.
