The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled today that mifepristone (the pill used in nearly two-thirds of all abortions in the United States) must once again be dispensed in person, ending the ability of patients nationwide to obtain it through telehealth and mail. The ruling reinstates a requirement that had been lifted by the FDA in 2021, which had allowed patients to get mifepristone after a telehealth consultation rather than a clinic visit.
