The difference is striking. Looking back at the 1976 Bicentennial and comparing it to today’s Semiquincentennial, it feels like the focus shifted. Instead of bringing Americans together to celebrate our shared history, Trump turned it into something centered on himself. A milestone like our nation’s 250th anniversary should have been about unity, not Trump. America deserved a celebration that belonged to everyone.
