Some of you know that I was very excited to put my new blender through its paces. The big deal about this blender is that it is a high speed blender with a *glass* (borosilicate) pitcher, has nearly the power of a Vitamix, *and* it has a heating function! And it comes with a steamer basket insert so that you can use the heating function to steam things. And while it cannot go in the dishwasher, the heating function means that it also has its own cleaning cycle! In the past several days I have made a cream of carrot soup by steaming the carrots first and then blending them with other ingredients, lots of fresh fruit smoothies, a cream of tomato soup, and, my final test of whether it could do everything my Vitamix does, my homemade vegan cream cheese which is very thick and made from, among other things, nuts. I consider this blender a success, especially at a fraction of the cost of the Vitamix. I love my Vitamix but to get away from plastic I had to get the stainless steel pitcher which means that you can’t see what the heck is going on inside, and of course the Vitamix is a pain to clean if you are using it to make thick or sticky stuff. I thought the new blender was going to be a lot taller than my Vitamix (obstructing one of my favorite views in my house) but it turns out it is not very much taller (although the pitcher holds more and so is wider). This new blender has the unlikely name of AstralShip (yes it’s made in China) and it is available on Amazon but they are frequently out but you can get it directly from the company.
UPDATE: Because several people have asked me, I have added as the last image my recipe for vegan cream cheese. I would add that it is high protein and very clean!
