New data shows the EPA’s scientific output has dropped sharply in the wake of recent staffing cuts, with peer-reviewed publications down significantly from just a year ago. Figures from Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility show the EPA completed 275 peer-reviewed studies in 2025, roughly 17% fewer than the previous year. The slide is continuing. PEER tracked just 61 publications through the early part of 2026, putting the agency on pace to finish the year with around 163 total a further drop that would mark a new low.
