In 1972, when the Clean Water Act was passed, only 1/3 of all the lakes, rivers, and waterways in the United States were safe for swimming or fishing, about 1/3 of U,S. drinking water was unsafe, and hundreds of species of animals were on the verge of extinction, including the bald eagle (the Endangered Species Act was passed the next year). People suck.
