From the “I Wouldn’t Want to be in His Shoes” Department: When a new federal district judge gets sworn in and assigned to his bench, after being confirmed by the Senate, the cases in that district get all rejiggered so as to move some of them over to the new judge, thus lightening the load on the other judges.
That’s what just happened today when newly minted and sworn in Judge Jeffrey T. Kuntz took his bench in the Southern District of Florida. And in the rejiggering he lightened the load of Judge Roy K. Altman, ending up with the case of… you got it… Donald J. Trump v. British Broadcasting Corporation.
Now before you start in with conspiracy theories, Trump appointed *each* of these judges. I suppose that it’s possible that Blanche had a hand in … encouraging … the rejiggering in a particular way, but it’s more likely that the rejiggering chips just fell where they may.
Either way, that’s a heckuva case to land in the lap of a newly-minted federal district judge. I *definitely* would not want to be him.
