ABOUT FAUCI PLEADING THE 5TH DURING HIS TESTIMONY

Some people seem to not understand why Dr. Anthony Fauci is leaning on his 5th Amendment rights during his testimony, especially as Biden gave him a blanket pardon before he left office.
Biden gave those pardons not because the people he pardoned did anything wrong, but because he *knew* that Trump was going to go after Trump’s perceived “enemies”, and those included just about anyone who did just about anything during the Biden administration. Fauci did nothing wrong, but Biden knew that wouldn’t matter to Trump, so he gave him that pardon.
And Rand Paul has *always* had a hard-on (in the bad way) for Fauci.
Fauci has *already* testified about the events surrounding the handling of Covid-19, where they thought it originated, etc..
So now here is Rand Paul, questioning Fauci under oath about things to which Fauci has *already* testified, under oath.
It is almost certainly the case that Rand Paul is *trying* to get Fauci to say something – under oath – that *contradicts* his previous testimony, which was also under oath.
We’ve discussed this before, it’s a classic tactic, trying to get a witness to give contradictory statements, both under oath, so that you can impeach that witness’ credibility.
Even worse, if Paul was successful, would be that Fauci could be charged with lying to Congress, *even if* the prior statement and the new statement were essentially – but not entirely – the same.
And lying to Congress is *not* included in the pardon that Biden gave him.
So, I don’t blame Fauci’s lawyers for advising him to plead the 5th. He’s not doing it because he’s guilty, he’s doing it because he’s *innocent* and he is standing by what he said *before*.
It’s the only way to avoid Rand Paul’s trap.
