A new court filing is accusing the Trump administration of engaging in what plaintiffs describe as “petty defiance” and “inexplicable” conduct in the ongoing dispute over the name displayed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
According to the filing, plaintiffs argue that after a court ordered steps toward restoring the center’s previous naming and signage, officials responded by covering portions of the building with tarps and scaffolding rather than promptly complying. The plaintiffs contend these actions are a “transparent effort” to delay or frustrate the restoration of what they describe as the rightful name.
The filing goes beyond a simple disagreement over signage. Plaintiffs are essentially accusing the administration of intentionally obstructing the court’s intent while technically avoiding direct noncompliance. Their argument is that the use of tarps, construction barriers, and other temporary measures serves no legitimate operational purpose and instead functions as a way to keep the disputed name from being publicly visible.
