You might be wondering why Trump is deploying ICE agents and now threatening the National Guard to airports. It’s not about helping TSA or improving security. It’s a test run.
The goal is to normalize the presence of armed federal agents and soldiers at locations where Americans are required to show ID and submit to screening before they can proceed. Get people used to it at airports first. Then roll it out at polling places in the midterms.
TSA doesn’t need this. The agency is fully funded through the security fees built into every plane ticket just like Social Security, it’s a dedicated funding stream that Congress has a long history of raiding for other purposes. Deploying ICE or the Guard isn’t a fix. Pay the agents.
