The Democratic National Committee took legal action against the Trump administration, filing suit to force the government to disclose whether it intends to deploy armed federal agents or military personnel at polling locations or election offices during this election cycle.

The suit, brought in federal court in Washington, D.C., alleges that 11 Freedom of Information Act requests submitted in October to the Justice Department, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Pentagon have gone substantively unanswered a violation of federal law.

The DNC says it needs the information to protect voters. “To ensure that the American people obtain timely knowledge of potential threats to free and fair elections and to enable the D.N.C. to take appropriate action to ensure voting rights are protected,” the filing reads, the committee is asking the court to step in and enforce FOIA’s legal requirements.
