Republicans keep saying “just use your Real ID” to meet the SAVE Act’s proof of citizenship requirement, but that’s only true in 5 states(only for enhanced Real ID). The bill only accepts a Real ID if it explicitly indicates U.S. citizenship. The problem is that standard Real IDs don’t show citizenship at all noncitizens can get one too. Only 5 states issue IDs that actually comply with the bill’s requirement. For the other 45, you’d need a U.S. passport, a military ID with service records, or a photo ID paired with a birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or similar document all presented in person. Don’t let them gaslight you. For most Americans, your Real ID (the one the government forced you to get) gets you through airport security. That’s it. Please help us spread the truth!
