I am so disappointed! Today I learned that David Paton, the lead singer for Pilot, was complicit in licensing the song Magic (“Oh, oh, oh it’s magic”) for Ozempic. (Before today I had never heard the altered jingle) What a disappointing sellout. To clarify, it’s the pushing of drugs to the mass market. If they sold it for a commercial for cheese doodles, or even Toyota RAV4s, it wouldn’t have hit me as disappointing at all. It is specifically because he sold out to a major drug company who is pushing a drug on not just people who need it but also people who don’t. He’s part of the commercialization of pharmaceuticals, which is something which, especially as someone who was in the pharmaceutical industry, I strongly oppose.
