As many suspected, taxpayers will end up footing part of the bill for the new White House ballroom after all. According to a new report from The Washington Post, the estimated cost of the project has now climbed to $600 million, with roughly half expected to come from taxpayer dollars. That’s a big difference from Trump’s previous claims that private donors would pay for the project.
Trump had previously said private donors would fund the ballroom, originally estimated at $400 million and planned to replace the East Wing. Now, with costs reportedly rising by $200 million and taxpayers potentially covering around $300 million of the bill, questions are being raised about who is ultimately paying for it.
At a time when agencies face budget cuts and Americans are dealing with rising costs, spending hundreds of millions of public dollars on a White House ballroom is ridiculous!
