A win! The California Supreme Court just ordered Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco to halt his investigation into the November 2025 special election and preserve the 650,000+ ballots he seized.
Bianco (a Republican candidate for governor) had been conducting an unauthorized recount of ballots after a local citizens group claimed a vote discrepancy. County election officials already debunked the claim. The actual difference in the official system was 103 ballots.
Attorney General Rob Bonta called today’s order essential to stop what he described as “the destabilizing actions of a rogue Sheriff.” The court is now reviewing whether a county sheriff even has the legal authority to seize election materials in the first place. Btw, he doesn’t. The warrants used to grab those ballots are still sealed from the public.
