A win! A federal judge today denied the Justice Department’s request to reconsider his ruling last month blocking the government’s subpoenas of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell as part of a criminal investigation into cost overruns at the Fed’s headquarters renovation. Judge James Boasberg said the government had offered neither new evidence nor identified any material error in his original ruling, which found the subpoenas were issued to pressure Powell to cut interest rates or resign rather than to pursue a legitimate criminal investigation.
